Two men face federal fentanyl trafficking charges after 5-kilogram seizure across metro Atlanta searches

Federal case centers on alleged distribution network operating across DeKalb and Gwinnett counties
Two men are facing federal charges after investigators seized a total of five kilograms of fentanyl during a multi-agency investigation spanning several metro Atlanta jurisdictions, authorities announced.
Osiel Adame-Gomez, 27, of Loganville, and Miguel Velazquez-Garcia, 26, of Atlanta, each appeared in federal court on separate criminal complaints alleging possession with intent to distribute fentanyl. Both were ordered held in federal custody without bail pending further proceedings.
Timeline: warehouse surveillance, pursuit, and multiple searches
Investigators said the case began after drug enforcement agents received information about an intended fentanyl sale expected to occur at a Doraville warehouse, involving a rented moving truck. On Feb. 5, 2026, agents conducting surveillance reported seeing Adame-Gomez with a rented moving truck at the warehouse.
Authorities said Adame-Gomez drove to a second location, exited the vehicle with a black backpack, and walked toward a storage facility. Investigators attempted to stop him after he exited the facility without the backpack, but he fled, officials said. He was later arrested in Dunwoody. A search of the storage facility led agents to recover a backpack containing one kilogram of fentanyl. Authorities also cited an estimated value of about $30,000 for that kilogram.
Traffic stop leads to additional seizures in Stone Mountain and Stonecrest
Four days later, on Feb. 9, 2026, DeKalb County police stopped a vehicle driven by Velazquez-Garcia in Stone Mountain, officials said. A police K9 alerted during the stop, and a search of the car recovered an additional kilogram of fentanyl, authorities said.
Investigators then searched residences associated with Velazquez-Garcia in Stone Mountain and Stonecrest. Those searches produced an additional three kilograms of fentanyl and what officials described as a large amount of suspected drug proceeds.
How the case is being prosecuted, and what remains unresolved
The prosecutions are being handled in federal court by the U.S. Attorney’s Office, with the investigation led by the Drug Enforcement Administration and support from local agencies including DeKalb County Police and Gwinnett County Police, authorities said.
Criminal complaints are charging documents, and the defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
Authorities have not publicly detailed how the two defendants are alleged to be connected to each other, whether additional suspects are being pursued, or whether investigators believe the five kilograms were tied to a broader distribution organization. Those issues are expected to be addressed through court filings and future proceedings.
