Commuter Advisory: Major Closures on SR 400

Commuters utilizing State Route 400 should prepare for significant delays today, Wednesday, March 4, as the SR 400 Express Lanes project enters a new phase of active construction. According to the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT), the SR 400 Southbound entrance and exit ramps at Holcomb Bridge Road are subject to daily rolling closures from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. These closures are necessary for ongoing roadwork and tree clearing within the state right-of-way as crews prepare for heavy construction scheduled for later this spring.

In addition to the daytime ramp work, motorists should be aware of nightly rolling closures between Abernathy Road and SR 141. These single-lane and shoulder closures are scheduled to resume at 9:00 p.m. tonight. Motorists are advised to exercise caution, follow electronic message boards, and reduce speeds when traveling through these active work zones to ensure the safety of roadside crews.

I-285 and I-20 Eastside Construction Update

Work continues on the massive I-285/I-20 East Interchange project in DeKalb County. Crews are currently focused on the new I-20 westbound to I-285 southbound flyover bridge, which is on track for a second-quarter completion. Additionally, the I-20 mainline bridge over Snapfinger Creek is entering its final alignment this week. While no full roadway closures are planned for the peak morning hours, the shifting traffic patterns and narrow lanes near the interchange may cause sudden slowing during the morning and afternoon rush.

MARTA Service and Transit Alerts

Public transit riders should plan for additional travel time due to scheduled station maintenance and long-term detours. MARTA has issued the following alerts for today:

  • Escalator and Elevator Maintenance: Ongoing renovations and repairs are affecting access at several key stations, including East Lake, Lenox, Lindbergh Center, and Sandy Springs. Commuters requiring mobility assistance should check the MARTA app for the latest elevator status before starting their trip.
  • Bus Detours: Route 40 remains on detour along Peachtree Street between Renaissance Parkway and the Arts Center Station. Route 899 also continues its long-term detour near King Memorial Station.
  • Early Bird Savings: MARTA continues to offer its MARTAConnect Early Bird program, providing up to $5 off Uber and Lyft rideshare trips between 4:00 a.m. and 6:30 a.m. for passengers on select routes, including 141 and 183.

Special Event Traffic: State Farm Arena and Gas South Arena

Heavy traffic is anticipated in Downtown Atlanta this afternoon and evening as Lady Gaga takes the stage at State Farm Arena for the first of two scheduled performances. Expect heavy congestion around Centennial Olympic Park and the Gulch starting as early as 4:00 p.m. Similarly, the 2026 Ally ACC Women’s Basketball Tournament kicks off today at the Gas South Arena in Duluth. Commuters in Gwinnett County should prepare for increased volume on I-85 and Sugarloaf Parkway throughout the evening commute.
