Six Atlanta-area stage productions opening in late January and February 2026, with dates and venues

Winter theater openings across metro Atlanta
Metro Atlanta’s winter stage calendar is set to bring a mix of new work, returning crowd-pleasers and regional premieres beginning in late January and continuing through March 2026. The lineup spans farce, solo performance, musical theater and a contemporary reimagining of a classic Russian drama, with productions running in Atlanta and Lawrenceville.
World premiere examines class tensions through farce
Theatrical Outfit opens the season with the world premiere of “Bleeding Hearts,” a new dark comedy by Atlanta-born playwright Steve Yockey. The plot centers on a middle-class couple whose attempt at generosity escalates into chaos after a homeless man is invited into their home, compounded by the intrusions of a wealthy neighbor. The production runs Jan. 28 through Feb. 22, 2026, at The Balzer Theater at Herren’s in downtown Atlanta.
A repeat run brings back a proven comedy hit
Aurora Theatre in Lawrenceville returns to “The Play That Goes Wrong,” a British farce built around an amateur troupe whose opening night collapses under missed cues, physical mishaps and a failing set. The production is scheduled for Jan. 22 through Feb. 15, 2026, on Aurora’s main stage at Lawrenceville Arts Center.
Solo show revisits Vietnam-era debriefings
Horizon Theatre reprises “I Carry Your Heart with Me,” a one-actor production written by Jennifer Blackmer. The play follows Esther, a government stenographer assigned to transcribe Vietnam-era debriefings at an Air Force base, as her work and personal relationships draw her into a high-stakes situation. The run is set for Jan. 30 through Feb. 15, 2026, in Atlanta.
Musical centers on a barrier-breaking athlete
Synchronicity Theatre stages “Catching the Moon: The Story of a Young Girl’s Baseball Dream,” a musical adaptation of Crystal Hubbard’s book about Marcenia Lyle, who later became known as Toni Stone. The production frames Stone’s early ambition and eventual path into professional baseball. It is scheduled for Feb. 20 through March 15, 2026, at Peachtree Pointe in Atlanta.
Alliance Theatre presents new play inspired by “Uncle Vanya”
Alliance Theatre’s Hertz Stage hosts the world premiere of “Fires, Ohio,” written by Beth Hyland and described as inspired by Anton Chekhov’s “Uncle Vanya.” Set as wildfires approach a small Ohio college town, the story focuses on a family’s tensions amid an impending crisis. Performances are scheduled Feb. 25 through March 22, 2026.
Regional premiere highlights friendship and identity
Out Front Theatre Company presents the Southeastern premiere of “BLKS,” a comedy by Aziza Barnes about three Black twentysomethings in New York City over a single 24-hour period. The play’s run is set for Jan. 29 through Feb. 14, 2026, in Atlanta.
