Significant MARTA Delays and Valentine’s Day Event Traffic Forecast for Saturday, Feb. 14

High Volume Expected for Valentine's Day Festivities
Atlanta commuters and residents should prepare for a busy travel day this Saturday, February 14, 2026. With Valentine's Day falling on a Saturday, a combination of holiday dining, major cultural festivals, and scheduled infrastructure maintenance is expected to create pockets of heavy congestion throughout the metro area, particularly in Midtown, Downtown, and near Stone Mountain.
MARTA Track Work and Reduced Rail Frequency
MARTA has announced significant service adjustments for the weekend of February 14-15 to accommodate essential track work. If you are planning to use the rail system for your Valentine's date or commute, be aware of the following changes:
- Gold Line: Trains will operate at a reduced frequency of 10 to 20 minutes between Doraville and the Airport.
- Red Line: Service will also run every 10 to 20 minutes. Note that Red Line trains will only provide service from North Springs to the Airport until 9:00 p.m.
- Blue and Green Lines: While no specific track work is scheduled for the east-west lines, passengers should still expect standard weekend frequencies of 15 to 20 minutes.
Travelers are encouraged to allow at least an extra 30 minutes of travel time when using the rail system this evening.
Key Highway Alerts and Roadworks
The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) continues several major projects that will impact late-night and early-morning travelers. Drivers should keep an eye on these specific zones:
- I-20/Downtown Connector: Nightly closures remain in effect for the I-20 Eastbound and Westbound ramps to I-75/85 Northbound. These closures begin at 9:00 p.m. and last until 5:00 a.m. throughout the weekend.
- I-285 Perimeter: Nightly lane closures continue on the top end of the Perimeter between Roswell Road and Riverside Drive for overhead sign replacement. While lanes remain open during the day, evening travelers should watch for pacing vehicles starting at 8:00 p.m.
- West Interchange: Preliminary work on the I-285/I-20 West interchange may cause intermittent shoulder closures and shifting traffic patterns near Fulton Industrial Boulevard.
Major Event Congestion Points
Heavy localized traffic is anticipated near the following venues:
- Piedmont Avenue: The Atlanta Botanical Garden's "Valentines in the Garden" event is sold out, with doors opening at 6:00 p.m. Expect heavy delays and limited parking near Piedmont Park.
- Stone Mountain: The Lunar New Year Festival runs from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., which will likely increase volume on US-78 and the Stone Mountain Parkway throughout the late afternoon.
- Midtown/Buckhead: Standard Saturday night dining traffic will be amplified by holiday crowds. Ride-share zones are expected to be highly congested near Peachtree Street and the Buckhead Village District.
