Public Notice: Downtown Traffic Alerts and Seasonal Health Advisories

Public Notice: Major Weekend Traffic Impacts on Downtown Connector and I-285
Atlanta residents and visitors should prepare for significant travel delays throughout the city today, Sunday, February 15, 2026. The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) has issued several weekend traffic alerts that remain active. A major 24-hour closure is currently in effect for the I-20 Eastbound and Westbound ramps to I-75/85 Northbound; this closure will persist through 5:00 AM on Monday morning. Motorists are advised to avoid the interchange and seek alternate routes via surface streets where possible.
- Downtown Connector: Four left lanes on I-75/85 Northbound at the Piedmont/Baker exits will be closed today from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM for maintenance.
- I-285 Southbound: A double right lane closure is active over Mount Gilead Road for bridge repair work.
- Perimeter Alerts: Double right lane closures are in effect on I-285 in both directions between Paces Ferry Road and South Cobb Drive for ongoing pavement rehabilitation.
Watershed and Infrastructure: Active Local Road Closures
The Atlanta Department of Watershed Management (DWM) continues to manage several critical infrastructure projects affecting local traffic patterns. A 24-hour road closure at 349 Decatur Street SE is currently in place for emergency sewer rehabilitation. This closure, situated between Hill Street SE and Hilliard Street SE, is expected to remain through the weekend. Additionally, the city has extended the temporary closure of Ormond Street SE, between Hank Aaron Drive SW and Fraser Street SE. This closure, part of the Water Main Improvement Project, is now scheduled to remain in effect through March 6, 2026, due to recent weather-related delays.
Health Advisory: Seasonal Illness and Public Safety Updates
The Fulton County Board of Health has issued a health advisory regarding widespread flu activity across the metropolitan area. Officials recommend that all residents continue to follow respiratory hygiene protocols as infection rates are currently peaking for the winter season. Furthermore, the Georgia Department of Public Health maintains a standing notice regarding a confirmed measles case in the state from earlier this year, urging parents to ensure that all pediatric vaccinations are current.
Regarding public utilities, the DWM has released a clarifying statement to address resident concerns over service line material. While recent regulatory letters have mentioned lead status, the department confirms that current testing has not identified any lead service lines within the city's inventory. Residents are encouraged to participate in the ongoing self-identification program to assist in future verification efforts.
City Schedule: Presidents’ Day Observance
In observance of the Presidents’ Day holiday, all City of Atlanta and Fulton County government offices will be closed on Monday, February 16, 2026. This includes health centers, libraries, and administrative facilities. While a regular Atlanta City Council meeting is listed for tomorrow at 1:00 PM, citizens should expect holiday-related schedule shifts for committee work. Normal business operations will resume on Tuesday, February 17, alongside several public meetings including the Americans with Disabilities Act Advisory Committee.
