Fatal crash investigated in Southwest Atlanta

A person died following a multi-vehicle collision that culminated in a head-on impact along Campbellton Road in southwest Atlanta, prompting an ongoing investigation by the Atlanta Police Department’s Accident Investigations Unit.

The crash occurred shortly after midnight on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, in the 4400 block of Campbellton Road. Officers responded at about 12:13 a.m. and requested specialized investigators to reconstruct the sequence of events and assess potential contributing factors.

What investigators say happened

Based on preliminary findings released by police, a black Chevrolet Malibu was traveling eastbound at a high rate of speed when it swerved near the Country Line Road SW area to avoid a black BMW. The Malibu left the roadway, entered the grass, and struck a telephone pole.

Police said the Malibu then lost control and collided with a white Nissan Armada before crossing into oncoming lanes and striking a black Tesla head-on. Investigators described the incident as involving three vehicles.

  • Location: 4454 Campbellton Road (4400 block), southwest Atlanta

  • Time: about 12:13 a.m., June 4, 2025

  • Vehicles involved: Chevrolet Malibu, Nissan Armada, Tesla

Injuries and medical response

Police said the front-seat passenger in the Malibu suffered serious injuries and was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital. The Malibu’s driver was also taken to Grady, and police described that person’s condition as stable at the time of the initial report.

The drivers of the other vehicles were reported to be uninjured.

Possible impairment and next steps

Investigators said the Malibu’s driver was suspected of being under the influence. Police indicated that charges were anticipated, but no charges were announced in the initial public summary and no identities were released in the preliminary report.

Police characterized the account as preliminary and subject to change as investigators collect additional evidence.

The Accident Investigations Unit typically reviews physical evidence from the roadway, vehicle damage patterns, witness statements, and any available video before finalizing findings. Police have not yet released a final determination of fault, nor have they provided an update on which individual died.

Anyone who witnessed the crash or has relevant video is generally encouraged to contact authorities as investigations continue.
