Atlanta City Council: Legislative Items for February 2

The Atlanta City Council is scheduled to convene for its regular session today, Monday, February 2, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. in the Council Chamber at City Hall. The session follows the Committee Chairs briefing held earlier this morning. Significant legislative items under consideration include:

  • Electric Bike Initiatives (26-R-3108): A resolution authorizing a $1 million donation to the Atlanta Regional Commission and Propel ATL to expand and support electric bike programs throughout the city.
  • Edgewood Corridor Safety (26-R-3111 & 26-R-3175): The Council will consider the full priority recommendation list from the Edgewood Corridor Public Safety Task Force. This includes a requested 180-day moratorium on all new alcohol license applications within the Edgewood corridor to address ongoing safety concerns.
  • Tree Protection Ordinance (26-O-1015): An ordinance to amend the city’s existing tree protection regulations, focusing on correcting technical errors and clarifying provisions regarding tree removal on earthen dams.
  • Community Recognition: The Council will officially proclaim the start of “Love Your Park Month” to encourage local stewardship of municipal green spaces.

Emergency Management: Winter Weather and Public Safety

A State of Emergency remains in effect across the region as issued by the Governor’s office through February 6, 2026. Public safety officials have issued the following advisories for Monday, February 2:

  • Black Ice Warning: The National Weather Service warns of dangerous road conditions due to overnight refreezing. Black ice is expected on bridges, overpasses, and shaded roadways. Residents are urged to exercise extreme caution or delay travel until mid-day.
  • Warming Center Availability: Emergency warming centers remain active to assist vulnerable populations during the extreme cold. In the metro area, facilities such as the Frontline Response Headquarters on Gresham Road SE are providing placement assistance and services through the afternoon.

Infrastructure and Judicial Updates

Local departments have announced several service adjustments and scheduled works for the week of February 2:

  • SR 400 Construction: The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) will begin daily shoulder closures on SR 400 Northbound from Holcomb Bridge Road to Mansell Road. Work is scheduled from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. as part of the Express Lanes project.
  • Court Rescheduling: The Fulton County Superior Court’s Family Division is holding rescheduled in-person Family Violence hearings today. These matters were previously delayed due to January weather events.
