Official Notice: Winter Weather Recovery and Service Updates for January 27

Public Service Announcement: Solid Waste Collection Resumption
The City of Atlanta Department of Public Works has announced that solid waste, recycling, and yard debris collections will resume on Tuesday, January 27, 2026. Due to lingering hazardous road conditions from recent winter weather, crews will operate on a delayed morning start to ensure the safety of personnel. Residents whose collection was scheduled for Monday will receive service on Tuesday, creating a one-day delay for the remainder of the week. Bulk collection residents will be notified directly of new pickup dates. Carts should be placed at the curb only when it is safe to do so.
MARTA Operational Status
The Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) will return to normal operations for all rail, bus, and paratransit services on Tuesday, January 27. Following three days of reduced service due to ice and snow, all routes will operate according to their regular weekday schedules. MARTA Mobility subscriptions will be honored, and reservations are being accepted as usual. Commuters are advised to exercise caution on station platforms and near bus stops where icy patches may persist.
Government Facility Reopenings and Closures
Fulton County government offices, including the courthouses and the Board of Health, will reopen for normal business hours on Tuesday, January 27. However, out of an abundance of caution regarding overnight freezing temperatures, all Fulton County Library System branches will close early at 6:00 p.m. Conversely, DeKalb County officials have announced that all non-essential county offices and facilities will remain closed on Tuesday, January 27, to allow for continued road clearing and facility inspections. Emergency and public safety services in both counties remain fully operational.
Notice of Virtual Public Meetings
Due to the continued State of Emergency declared for the region, several public meetings scheduled for Tuesday, January 27, have been transitioned to virtual formats. The City of South Fulton will hold its City Council Work Session (4:00 p.m.) and Regular Meeting (7:00 p.m.) via live stream. Additionally, the Atlanta City Council Community Development and Human Services (CDHS) Committee is scheduled to review its 2026 goals and objectives during its Tuesday session. Residents are encouraged to check the respective city websites for instructions on submitting public comments remotely.
