Following the recent severe winter weather events across North Georgia and the Metro Atlanta area, the City of Atlanta and Fulton County have issued several updates regarding the resumption of public services, deactivation of emergency facilities, and scheduled legislative meetings for Wednesday, January 28, 2026.
Winter Weather Emergency Deactivations
As temperatures begin to stabilize, the City of Atlanta has announced the scheduled deactivation of its emergency warming centers. The following locations, which have been operating continuously since late last week, will conclude operations at 11:00 a.m. today, January 28:
- Central Park Recreation Center (400 Merritts Ave. NE)
- Selena S. Butler Park and Recreation Center (98 William Holmes Borders Dr. NE) – Dedicated to women and children.
- Old Adamsville Recreation Center (3404 Delmar Ln. NW)
Transportation from these facilities back to the Gateway Center is being coordinated by Fulton County. Residents are advised to monitor official channels for any changes based on the latest National Weather Service forecasts.
Public Service and Infrastructure Updates
The Department of Public Works and Department of Watershed Management have issued the following service alerts for Wednesday:
- Solid Waste Collection: Due to hazardous road conditions earlier in the week, solid waste and recycling collections are operating on a one-day delay. Monday routes were serviced on Tuesday, and remaining collections for the week will follow this adjusted schedule. Residents are asked to leave yard debris at the curb until collected.
- Fulton County Library System: All library due dates for materials and holds that were originally due between Saturday and Tuesday have been automatically extended through today, Wednesday, January 28.
- Watershed Management: Lane closures remain in effect on Ridgewood Rd. NW and Warren Rd. NW due to ongoing sewer upgrades. Additionally, Peachtree Battle Road remains closed for mainline rehabilitation work.
