City Council Session and Legislative Agenda

The Atlanta City Council will hold its regularly scheduled meeting today, Monday, February 16, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. in the Council Chamber at City Hall. Despite the federal holiday, the Council is moving forward with a significant legislative agenda focused on neighborhood revitalization and public safety. Key items under consideration include:

  • Bowen Choice Neighborhood Transformation: An ordinance (26-O-1116) to ratify a $2 million intergovernmental agreement aimed at the comprehensive transformation of the Bowen Choice neighborhood.
  • Homelessness Outreach Funding: A proposed $100,000 donation to Safehouse Outreach, Inc. (26-O-1115) to support critical street outreach, supportive services, and rehousing initiatives for individuals experiencing extreme poverty.
  • FIFA World Cup 2026 Planning: Resolution 26-R-3106, which affirms the 'Play Fair ATL' policy platform to ensure equitable economic and social impacts as the city prepares for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
  • Public Safety Infrastructure: An ordinance (26-O-1117) regarding the development of an interim Fire Station 15 on Piedmont Road NE to maintain emergency service coverage during the construction of the permanent Midtown Fire Station.
  • ADA Accessibility: An amendment to the 1982 Atlanta Zoning Ordinance (26-O-1001) that would require primary pedestrian entrances to be equipped with push-button activators to improve citywide accessibility.

The session will also feature official proclamations recognizing John W. Lewis, Jr., and the Simpson Road Trojans, along with a special recognition for Tree City USA in honor of Arbor Day observations.

Department of Public Works: Holiday Service Update

The City of Atlanta Department of Public Works has announced that there will be no delay in solid waste collection today. Residents who normally receive garbage, recycling, or yard trimming services on Mondays should place their bins at the curb as usual. Additionally, a new service improvement takes effect today: bulk waste collections may now be scheduled for your regular weekly collection day. Residents must still schedule these pickups in advance via the ATL311 system.

Traffic Advisories and Watershed Maintenance

The Department of Watershed Management has issued several advisories for the week of February 16:

  • 26th Street NW: A temporary lane closure is in effect between Alden Avenue NW and Peachtree Street NW for curb and asphalt restoration. Work is scheduled daily from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. through February 20.
  • Ormond Street SE: The existing closure between Hank Aaron Drive SW and Fraser Street SE has been extended through early March to complete water main improvements delayed by recent weather.

Government Facility Closures

While City Hall remains open for the Council session, residents are advised that Fulton County government offices, state and federal courts, and Atlanta Public Schools are closed today in observance of the Presidents' Day holiday. Normal operations for these entities will resume on Tuesday, February 17.
