Official Notice: Status of City Emergency Services

As of Friday, February 6, 2026, the City of Atlanta is concluding its current activation of emergency cold weather protocols. The Mayor’s Office has confirmed that the citywide warming centers, which were established to protect vulnerable residents during the recent winter storm, will officially deactivate at 9:00 a.m. today. The facilities at the Central Park Recreation Center, Selena S. Butler Park and Recreation Center, and the Old Adamsville Recreation Center have completed their overnight operations. Residents currently utilizing these services are being transitioned back to standard shelter networks via transportation provided in coordination with the Gateway Center and Fulton County. The State of Emergency issued by the Governor’s office also remains in effect through the conclusion of today, as public works crews finalize the treatment of untreated secondary roads that may still harbor icy patches.

Department of Transportation: Traffic and Transit Alerts

The Atlanta Department of Transportation (ATLDOT) and MARTA have issued several advisories for residents and commuters active for Friday, February 6:

  • MARTA Route Delays: Due to permitted filming for a major television production on Forsyth Street, MARTA Bus Routes #26 (Marietta Street / Perry Boulevard) and #40 (Peachtree Street / Downtown) will experience significant delays and intermittent reroutes. These disruptions are scheduled to last from 7:00 a.m. today through 2:00 a.m. tomorrow morning. Commuters are encouraged to utilize the mobile transit app for real-time tracking.
  • SR 400 Infrastructure Work: The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) continues its geotechnical investigation for the SR 400 Express Lanes Project. Motorists should expect shoulder closures in both directions between Holcomb Bridge Road and Mansell Road. These operations are restricted to daytime hours, concluding today at 3:00 p.m.
  • City Resurfacing Projects: Active daytime resurfacing continues on several city routes, including Jesse Hill Jr. Drive NE, Ted Turner Drive NW, Nelson Street SW, and Ellis Street NE. Residents should expect temporary lane shifts and flagger-controlled traffic throughout the afternoon.

Public Health Advisory: Seasonal Influenza Warning

The Georgia Department of Public Health (DPH) continues to monitor "widespread and severe" influenza activity across the metro area. Health officials are maintaining their urgent recommendation for all eligible residents to receive the current season’s vaccination. Hospitalization rates remained elevated throughout the first week of February, and the department warns that infections are expected to remain at peak levels through the remainder of the month as residents return to standard work and school schedules following recent weather closures.

Community Notice: 'Love Your Park' Initiative

The Department of Parks and Recreation is officially seeking 1,000 volunteers for the month of February as part of the "Love Your Park" initiative. With 33 group projects active across 300 city parks, officials are calling for residents to assist with trail building, litter removal, and invasive species management. Interested participants can register through the city's official volunteer portal for weekend events starting tomorrow, February 7.
