MARTA Station Detours and Filming Closures Impact Tuesday Commute

Morning Commute Overview

Commuters in the Atlanta area should prepare for significant transit detours and local road closures this Tuesday, March 3, 2026. While the major interstates are currently moving at typical weekday speeds, specific infrastructure projects and scheduled filming events in the downtown and Midtown areas are causing localized disruptions that may add time to your morning and afternoon travels.

MARTA Service Alerts and Station Detours

The Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) has issued several critical alerts for rail and bus users today as part of the systemwide 'Better Breeze' fare payment upgrade and local events:

  • Buckhead Station: Starting today, Tuesday, March 3, all faregates at the Buckhead Station are closed for construction. Commuters must use the emergency gates at both the north and south entrances to enter and exit. You will still be required to pay your fare at your destination station.
  • Airport Station: The ongoing faregate overhaul continues at the Hartsfield-Jackson Airport Station. All regular gates are closed. Travelers should follow posted signage to terminal doors W-1 and W-2 to access the shuttle loop and concourse.
  • Downtown Bus Reroutes: Filming for 'Will Trent' Season 4 continues to impact the area around Edgewood Avenue. Route #3 will remain on detour between Peachtree Street and Park Place until approximately 10:00 p.m. tonight. Additionally, a 'Red Bull - Show Run' event on Jackson Street will cause temporary reroutes for Route #899 between 11:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. today.

Major Roadworks and Arterial Closures

Surface street conditions in Midtown remain restricted due to long-term infrastructure repairs. Drivers are encouraged to utilize 14th Street or North Avenue as alternatives for east-west travel. Notable closures include:

  • 10th Street NE: A full road closure remains in effect between Peachtree Street and Piedmont Avenue for critical sewer rehabilitation. Local access is maintained, but through traffic is blocked.
  • 26th Street NW: Expect lane restrictions between Alden Avenue NW and Peachtree Street NW for ongoing maintenance.
  • I-285 Westside: While overnight emergency bridge repairs near Mount Gilead Road were scheduled to conclude early this morning, heavy equipment and construction crews remain active on the I-285 westside corridor as part of a multi-year reconstruction project. Watch for shifting lanes between Paces Ferry Road and South Cobb Drive.
  • GA-400: Periodic lane closures continue this week for the express lane expansion project. Drivers should stay alert for slow-moving service vehicles near the Northridge Road exit.

Commuter Advice

For those using MARTA rail, please allow an extra five minutes to navigate station detours, particularly at the Buckhead and Airport stations. If your commute involves the Downtown Connector or the I-285/I-20 interchange, maintain a steady following distance as construction-related lane shifts can cause sudden braking. Stay safe and plan for slightly longer travel times through the Midtown corridor today.
