Sunday Transit and Road Conditions Overview

Good morning, Atlanta. As we move into Sunday, February 8, 2026, the city is seeing a mix of transit-heavy adjustments and localized road closures. While the early morning hours have seen the expiration of several overnight rail alerts, commuters using MARTA and those traveling through the northern suburbs should remain alert to ongoing service modifications and construction zones.

MARTA Rail and Station Alerts

MARTA riders will encounter several platform changes and facility updates this morning. Most notably, at the Five Points station, the East-West center platform is currently restricted. It remains open for Southbound transfers only. Passengers looking to travel Northbound or exit the station must use the right-hand side doors relative to their direction of travel. This specific restriction is scheduled to remain in place until approximately 6:00 AM today.

Additionally, multiple stations are undergoing critical escalator renovations and repairs, which may impact accessibility for some travelers. Stations currently affected by out-of-service escalators include:

  • Sandy Springs & Lindbergh Center: Escalator 1 is out for scheduled renovation.
  • Lenox: Multiple units (Escalators 1, 3, and 4) are undergoing repairs.
  • Arts Center & Chamblee: Escalator 5 and Escalator 2, respectively, are out for renovation.
  • Ashby & East Lake: Repair and renovation work is ongoing at these locations as well.

While major single-tracking on the Red Line and at the Kensington station was scheduled to conclude during the overnight hours, passengers should check for residual delays as systems return to normal Sunday frequency.

Local Road Closures: Dunwoody Sewer Project

In the northern metro area, the City of Dunwoody and DeKalb County have implemented a significant road closure as part of the Bend Creek Sewer Improvement Project. Dunwoody Club Drive is closed to through-traffic between Braddock Court and Bend Creek Road. While the heaviest construction work is typically scheduled for weekdays between 9:00 AM and 4:00 PM, detour signs remain in place to guide local residents and commuters around the restricted area. This project is expected to continue through late March, so drivers in the Dunwoody Club Forest neighborhood should plan for extra travel time.

GDOT Weekend Maintenance

The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) continues its weekend maintenance schedule across several major arteries. Motorists should be prepared for potential lane shifts or shoulder closures on SR 400 near the Holcomb Bridge Road and McGinnis Ferry Road areas due to ongoing geotechnical investigations related to future express lane expansion. As always, follow the "Move Over" law to protect work crews stationed along the interstates.
