Dozens of rounds fired into residence; teens inside were not injured

Atlanta police are investigating an early-morning shooting that left a family’s home on the city’s Westside heavily damaged after gunmen fired dozens of rounds into the residence on Fair Street in southwest Atlanta. No injuries were reported, and no arrests had been announced as of Wednesday.

Investigators recovered 74 shell casings outside a home in the 1100 block of Fair Street after the shooting, which occurred around 1 a.m. Police said four suspects fired into the residence, shattering windows and damaging the exterior siding. Firefighters also responded to the scene overnight as officers processed evidence and assessed hazards created by the gunfire.

Family had recently moved in; investigators reviewing video and leads

The homeowner was not inside the residence when shots were fired, but her three teenage children were inside at the time and took cover. The family had moved into the home roughly three weeks before the shooting, and the homeowner told reporters she believed her household may have been targeted by mistake, possibly in connection with prior occupants. By early Wednesday morning, the family had packed belongings and left the home.

Police said the suspects arrived in a white vehicle and fled in a white Kia Soul. Authorities had not released a description of the suspects or indicated whether a motive had been established.

Neighbors describe repeated concerns and rapid tenant turnover

Residents in the area described being awakened by rapid gunfire and said the volume of shots suggested an extended burst rather than a brief exchange. Some neighbors also pointed to frequent turnover among tenants at the targeted home and said they had noticed regular activity at the property in the past.

Neighbors said the shots came quickly and in large volume, leaving evidence markers scattered along the street and in front of the home as investigators documented the scene.
