Fulton County Leaders Convene for Critical Budget Vote

The Fulton County Board of Commissioners is scheduled to meet today, Wednesday, January 21, 2026, for its Second Regular January Meeting. Taking place at the Fulton County Government Center’s Assembly Hall in downtown Atlanta, the session is expected to be one of the most consequential of the month as officials prepare to finalize the county's financial roadmap for the year.

The primary item on today’s agenda is the review and approval of the FY2026 Final Adopted Budget and its accompanying resolutions. This vote follows weeks of departmental reviews and public hearings aimed at balancing the county’s service needs with fiscal responsibility. In addition to the budget, the Board will receive comprehensive updates from the County Manager and several key departments, including Public Works, Information Technology, Registration and Elections, Senior Services, and Finance.

Key Agenda Items and Local Appointments

Beyond the overarching budget discussions, the commissioners are slated to address several specific administrative and community matters. The agenda includes:

  • Grants and Finance: Ratification of the December 2025 Grants Activity Report and the approval of qualifying fees for upcoming Registration and Elections cycles.
  • Community Appointments: The Board will consider new nominations for the Fulton County Homeless Continuum of Care (CoC), including a representative for District 4.
  • Public Recognition: Several proclamations are scheduled, recognizing local residents and organizations for their service, including honors for local Eagle Scouts and community advocates.

City of Atlanta Commissions and Public Safety

While the Fulton County Board of Commissioners handles regional and county-wide governance, several City of Atlanta boards are also active today. The City of Atlanta Pension Investment Board is scheduled to meet from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. to discuss the management of municipal retirement funds. Later this afternoon, the Atlanta Artificial Intelligence Commission will convene at 4:00 p.m., followed by a session of the Tree Conservation Commission at 6:30 p.m.

In response to current weather conditions, the City of Atlanta has also extended its public safety operations. Warming centers at the Central Park Recreation Center and Selena S. Butler Park remain open through 10:00 a.m. this morning to assist residents during the overnight cold spell. Officials have noted that transportation services provided by the city and Fulton County will assist in transitioning residents as these facilities deactivate for the day.

Residents interested in the Fulton County proceedings can attend in person at 141 Pryor Street SW or view the live broadcast on Fulton Government Television. Public comments are being accepted both in person and virtually via Zoom for those who registered prior to the 10:00 a.m. start time.
