A fatal shooting outside a southeast Atlanta business has reignited scrutiny of recurring violence near Jonesboro Road

A southeast Atlanta family is urging authorities to shutter a package store along Jonesboro Road after the fatal shooting of 27-year-old Larricus Alexander, who died following gunfire outside the business in late December.

Police have said Alexander was shot on Dec. 30, 2025, outside a package store on Jonesboro Road. Investigators have indicated the incident began as an argument inside the store that then moved outside. As of late January, police had not publicly identified a suspect or released a description.

Timeline of incidents cited by the family and police

Relatives say the location has become a repeated backdrop for gun violence, and they point to multiple shootings in and around the same stretch of roadway over a short period. Police have also acknowledged additional recent gunfire nearby, though investigators have not publicly stated that the cases are connected.

  • Dec. 30, 2025: Alexander was shot outside the package store on Jonesboro Road and later died.

  • Early January 2026: Another shooting occurred at the same location about a week later, followed by a third shooting the next day roughly a mile away, based on information provided by police and the family.

What is known about the investigation

Investigators have said surveillance footage is expected to play a central role in establishing what happened. Police have noted that cameras are present in the area and that video evidence is being sought from surrounding businesses and nearby properties.

Authorities have described the initial confrontation as a dispute that escalated into gunfire. The investigation remains active, and officials have continued to seek community assistance to identify the shooter and clarify the sequence of events.

Calls to close the store and the competing claims around public safety

Alexander’s aunt, Lakisha Hogan, has called for the package store to be condemned or closed, arguing that repeated shootings in close proximity make the business and its immediate surroundings unsafe for residents.

“I just feel like the store needs to be condemned for the safety of young people in the future. Old people, too, I mean, for the safety of the community,” Hogan said.

A manager at the store, however, disputed the idea that the area is uniquely dangerous, saying it is not more risky than other parts of the city.

What happens next

Whether a business can be closed due to crime concerns typically depends on enforcement pathways that may involve policing strategies, regulatory reviews, and, in some cases, municipal code or licensing actions. For now, the immediate focus remains the homicide investigation, including identifying the shooter and determining accountability for Alexander’s death.

Police continue to ask anyone with information, including video from the area around Jonesboro Road on the night of Dec. 30, to contact investigators.
