Atlanta police renew request for information on silver Ford Explorer tied to 2021 fatal shooting
Investigators ask public to help identify two suspects and a vehicle seen leaving a Southwest Atlanta scene
Atlanta police are seeking information about a silver Ford Explorer believed to have transported two suspects away from a deadly shooting in Southwest Atlanta in 2021, reopening public attention on a case that remains unresolved more than four years later.
The homicide occurred on August 5, 2021, near the 2100 block of Forrest Park Road, where officers responding to reports of gunfire found a 22-year-old man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was taken to a hospital and later died, investigators said in a renewed public request released Tuesday.
Detectives say the shooting began with a brief verbal confrontation between two pedestrians that escalated into gunfire. Police have not released the victim’s name in the latest appeal and have not disclosed a motive, whether the victim knew either suspect, or whether additional individuals may have been involved.
Suspect descriptions released as part of renewed appeal
Investigators circulated descriptions of two people wanted for questioning and asked anyone with information to come forward.
- The first suspect is described as a Black male with a medium build and dreadlocks extending past his shoulders. He was last seen wearing a white T-shirt, denim jeans and black slides.
- The second suspect is described as a male wearing a black T-shirt with a graphic on the front, black pants and a black ski mask.
Police say both individuals were seen leaving the scene in a silver Ford Explorer. Investigators have not publicly specified the model year, whether it had distinguishing damage, a license plate description, or whether the SUV is believed to be connected to the suspects beyond serving as transportation from the area.
Why vehicle tips can matter years later
In cases where the suspected escape vehicle is identified, detectives can use ownership records, repair histories, surveillance video and witness statements to narrow timelines and determine who had access to the vehicle at the time of a crime. Even when years have passed, investigators may still be able to match vehicle characteristics to archived video or confirm patterns of movement and association.
Police urged anyone with information about the suspects or the silver Ford Explorer to contact the Atlanta Police Department Homicide Unit or submit an anonymous tip through Crime Stoppers.
