Atlanta City Council Committees Convene as New Livestreaming Policy Takes Effect Today

Legislative Committees Set for Monday Sessions
The Atlanta City Council returns to City Hall today, Monday, March 9, 2026, for a series of high-level committee meetings aimed at addressing the city’s evolving infrastructure and safety needs. The schedule for the day is split between two primary legislative bodies: the Zoning Committee and the Public Safety and Legal Administration Committee. These sessions represent a critical step in the city’s 2026 legislative calendar, following the goals and objectives established earlier this year.
Zoning and Public Safety on the Agenda
The day begins at 11:00 AM with the Zoning Committee session, which is scheduled to run until 1:00 PM. This committee is tasked with reviewing land use applications, rezoning requests, and special use permits that impact neighborhoods across the city. Key items under review typically include the alignment of new developments with the city's comprehensive development plan and ensuring that high-density projects maintain the character of historic districts.
Immediately following the conclusion of the zoning session, the Public Safety and Legal Administration (PSLA) Committee will meet from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM. Led by Chair Andrea L. Boone, the PSLA committee is expected to receive updates from the Atlanta Police Department and the Atlanta Municipal Court. Building on sessions from earlier this quarter, today’s meeting will likely touch upon the 2026 goals for reducing recidivism and improving the efficiency of the judicial system, which has seen a notable increase in case volumes over the last year.
New Livestreaming Transition for Residents
Today also marks a significant shift in how the public interacts with local government. Starting March 9, 2026, the Atlanta City Council is officially transitioning its digital broadcasting strategy. The Council Communications office has announced that full council and committee meetings will no longer be directly livestreamed on traditional social media platforms. Instead, residents are being directed to the city's dedicated channel, ATL26.
To view today's proceedings live, citizens must access the ATL26 YouTube channel. This move is part of a broader effort to centralize government communications and provide a more stable, high-definition viewing experience for the public. Recordings of today’s committee votes and discussions will remain available for later viewing on the city’s archived meetings portal.
Additional Government Activities
In addition to the council committees, the Housing Commission has issued a public notice for a meeting taking place today. This session coincides with the city’s ongoing focus on affordable housing initiatives and the management of federal grants for neighborhood transformation. Under the leadership of Council President Marci Collier Overstreet, the city continues to prioritize transparency as these various commissions and committees work through the 2026 fiscal and legislative agendas.
